The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, And the froward mouth, do I hate.
I grew up in my faith, loving this verse of Scripture from Solomon. The Spirit of the Lord used this verse to tame me and raise the banner of the fear of the Lord in my life. Through it, He gave me a lens with which I view and judge things.
If a person says he or she fears the Lord, then this verse helps us narrow down the areas we should look at in their life. These are:
You are to hate this evil: pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the froward mouth. These are the evils we are commanded to hate. Failing to hate these things is a sign that you do not carry the fear of the Lord within you.
So, let's talk about the first one.
PRIDE:
Pride is not just an attitude or a way of life for some people; it is actually a spirit. This is the same spirit that was responsible for Lucifer’s dethroning from heaven. How Lucifer came about this spirit is what I do not know.
No child of God should accommodate this spirit, because God Himself could not accommodate it.
That thing that makes you feel better than others—the look and the still, small voice that makes you rate yourself above people, and even as a “god” sometimes; that thing that makes you think you know better than everyone, that you deserve so much, yet have no results to show in life—this is evil.
Oh, help me, Spirit of God, not to walk this path in Jesus' name. Amen.
