Keep Your Drive Under Control

Anchor Scripture

1 Corinthians 9:27 (AMPC)

But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit].

God gave each one of us that he created an endowment of physical forces. Psychologists call these forces “drives,” and these drives enable each of us to live and grow.

There are different drives. One of them is the sex drive. Do you know a lot of people have been destroyed by this so-called sex drive? Even though God gave them to us by creation and they are wonderful gifts, if not properly controlled or checkmated, they can destroy the individual.

This is why Paul the Apostle in our theme scripture is talking about measures by which he put this drive down, lest after he must have finished preaching or ministering to others, he himself becomes a castaway.

He said he handles his body in a rough way. This is his own method of putting down the drive. Don’t speak against a man who practises some things in a different way because you don’t know his own method of checkmating this drive.

Ask the Holy Spirit to help put you through the best possible way to put down the drive you feel you need to suppress for the kingdom's sake.

Selah.
